Fatal Chesterfield police shooting death of Ronald R. Estes III – Obituary

Ronald R. Estes III, 23, was shot and killed by police officers early Thursday morning in Chesterfield, Virginia, after being involved in an earlier shooting incident.

 

Chesterfield police were first called around 4:30 a.m. on April 24 to a home on Birnam Woods Drive in the Brandermill neighborhood following reports of a disturbance and gunfire. The suspect, later identified as Estes, allegedly fired a handgun during a dispute before fleeing the scene.

 

About an hour later, officers located Estes near the intersection of Genito and Old Hundred roads. Police say that when confronted, Estes pulled a gun and fired a shot, prompting three officers to return fire. Estes was pronounced dead at the location.

 

None of the officers were injured during the encounter. All three have been placed on administrative leave as standard procedure while the investigation continues.
