OMAHA, NE — A tragic car accident on Monday evening, April 21, claimed the life of 16-year-old Elise Cole, a sophomore at Millard West High School. The crash occurred just before 7:30 PM near the high school on 176th Avenue and Queen Street.
Cole was driving a 2017 Subaru Outback when a 2006 Ford F350 pickup truck, driven by 32-year-old Christopher Luke, collided with her vehicle. Both drivers were transported to the hospital, where Cole was later pronounced dead after succumbing to her injuries.
Luke, who sustained injuries but is expected to survive, was treated at the hospital. The police are continuing their investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
In the wake of Cole’s death, classmates and friends have set up a memorial outside the high school, paying tribute with flowers and messages of remembrance. Many shared heartfelt memories of Cole, remembering her as a kind, joyful, and generous person who touched the lives of everyone around her.
Millard West High School Principal Dr. Greg Tiemann expressed his sadness, noting that Cole was an active member of the Principal’s Council and Show Choir, always eager to make a difference. Her friends, including classmate Miley Blue, remembered her as a “perfect” friend with a beautiful soul who lit up any room she entered.
