Jameson Moyer dies in fatal Charleston, SC crash involving U-Haul truck
Fatal Charleston, SC crash death of Jameson Moyer – Obituary
A tragic collision occurred Saturday evening on Meeting Street when a motorcyclist was killed, and several others were injured after a U-Haul truck attempting to escape police hit multiple vehicles. The truck’s driver, 54-year-old Margie Kathy Brown, and her passenger were apprehended following the crash.
Both individuals involved in the incident claimed to be sovereign citizens, a controversial belief that asserts one’s exemption from laws and government regulations. However, authorities have not yet released the identity of the passenger. Brown, the driver of the U-Haul, has been charged with multiple offenses, including improper turn, reckless homicide causing injury, failure to stop for blue lights, and failure to stop after a collision that resulted in bodily harm. She remains in custody at the Al Cannon Detention Center, with a $232.50 bond set for the improper turn charge, but no bond granted for the more severe charges.
The incident unfolded just before 5 p.m. when police attempted to pull over the U-Haul at the intersection of Dorchester and Meeting Streets. The driver refused to stop, leading officers on a pursuit that took them onto Interstate 26 and through downtown Charleston before ending at the intersection of Columbus and King Streets. Despite police discontinuing the chase, the driver continued, heading north in the southbound lanes of Meeting Street.
At 4:55 p.m., the U-Haul struck two pedestrians before swerving into the opposite lane, colliding with a Mercedes sedan. This chain reaction led to the Mercedes hitting a Honda motorcycle, which in turn crashed into a Chevrolet Tahoe. Tragically, one of the motorcyclists died from their injuries, and the other was rushed to the hospital, along with three people from the Mercedes. The two pedestrians were also injured and hospitalized, as was one of the U-Haul’s passengers.
The investigation is ongoing, with the South Carolina Highway Patrol handling the case. The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the name of the deceased motorcyclist.
