WATERBURY, CT — A tragic accident early Thursday morning, April 24, claimed the lives of four people, including three brothers, when a speeding car crashed into Hernandez Market. The incident occurred just before 1 a.m. on Cherry Avenue.
The victims were identified as 20-year-old Jonathan Puszka and three brothers: 20-year-old Kayden Torres, 25-year-old Nelson Torres, and 15-year-old Noel Torres. Police reported that the car was speeding north on Cherry Avenue when it lost control and struck the market, causing part of the building to collapse. Three individuals in the car were pronounced dead at the scene, while the fourth victim died at the hospital.
The crash also caused a utility pole to be knocked down, creating a hazardous environment for those who tried to assist the victims. Emergency responders worked throughout the day to secure the area and repair the damage. Fortunately, the market was closed at the time of the accident, and no other injuries were reported.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, and Cherry Street remains closed to traffic as repairs continue.
