Fatal Hampton plane crash death of Rob Holland – Obituary

Rob Holland, a celebrated stunt pilot, died when his custom-built MX Aircraft MXS crashed at Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Hampton, Virginia, while he was preparing for an upcoming air show.

 

The accident happened shortly before noon as Holland attempted to land during a training session for the Air Power Over Hampton Roads event. He was alone in the aircraft at the time of the crash.

 

A post on Holland’s official Facebook page described him as one of the most respected and inspiring figures in the aerobatics community, noting his remarkable achievements and humble nature. Despite his long list of accolades, he was known for his personal mission to improve every day.

 

The National Transportation Safety Board classified Holland’s plane as an “experimental” model and is leading the investigation into the crash.

 

Colonel Matthew Altman, commander of Joint Base Langley-Eustis, expressed his condolences on behalf of the entire base community, mourning the loss of an aviator considered a friend to the Air Force family.

 

The crash occurred at the site composed of Fort Eustis and Langley Air Force Base, near the southwestern shoreline of the Chesapeake Bay. The Air Power Over Hampton Roads air show is still scheduled to proceed on the upcoming weekend.
