Carl Marder-Grant dies in fatal North Chicago shooting

Fatal North Chicago shooting death of Carl Marder-Grant – Obituary

A tragic incident unfolded on Wednesday evening in North Chicago when Carl Marder-Grant, a 31-year-old from Waukegan, was fatally shot outside a home on Victoria Avenue. Marder-Grant had been visiting family when the shooting occurred.

The incident prompted immediate response from local authorities, including the North Chicago Police and Fire Departments, who arrived shortly before 5 p.m. to find Marder-Grant injured in the yard at the corner of 17th Street and Victoria Avenue. Despite efforts to save him, he was later pronounced dead at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

The Lake County Major Crime Task Force has since joined the investigation, which includes reviewing surveillance footage and physical evidence.

Prosecutors believe the suspect, Carlos D. Marchan, 25, of North Chicago, fired 16 shots in a brazen attack on the group, but it remains unclear whether Marder-Grant was the intended target.

Marchan, a convicted felon with a history of firearm offenses, was apprehended after law enforcement traced a gray GMC Terrain linked to him. Authorities later recovered clothing matching the description seen in the surveillance footage at a family member’s home.

Marchan has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, and additional charges may follow as the investigation continues.

The shooting is believed to be gang-related, though Marchan’s defense attorney denies any connection to the crime, claiming a lack of evidence tying him to the scene. Marchan is currently in custody at Lake County Jail, awaiting his next court appearance on May 23.
