A tragic house fire in Robeson Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, claimed the lives of a father and son early Monday morning. The victims were identified as 74-year-old Charles S. Lauck and his 54-year-old son, Charles L. Lauck.
The fire broke out at their residence on the 700 block of White Beard Road around 6:23 a.m. on April 28. Emergency crews arrived to find the home engulfed in flames. Firefighters rescued three occupants — the two men and a woman — from the burning structure.
Both Charles S. Lauck and Charles L. Lauck succumbed to their injuries. The woman, identified as Phyllis Lauck, the wife and mother of the deceased, was hospitalized with serious injuries. A neighbor shared that Phyllis was known in the area for her compassion, especially her care for stray cats.
Three firefighters were also taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital for evaluation and treatment but were reported to be in stable condition.
Authorities said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, though no foul play is suspected. Investigators confirmed that there was at least one functional smoke detector in the home.
