Fatal Richland crash death of Christopher Quandt – Obituary

Christopher J. Quandt, 71, of Pasco, tragically died Sunday morning after crashing into a bridge abutment on Highway 240 in Richland.

At approximately 9:20 a.m. on April 27, Quandt was driving west on Columbia Park Trail at high speed and in an erratic manner when his vehicle struck the Highway 240 overpass. The collision caused the car to spin and flip multiple times.

According to Benton County Coroner’s office and Richland police, Quandt was not wearing a seatbelt and was trapped inside the vehicle after the crash. Although an ambulance was nearby and stopped to assist, Quandt was declared dead at the scene. The crash occurred near the Ben Franklin Transit headquarters at the Richland “Y.”

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, with an autopsy scheduled for April 29. Richland police are requesting that anyone who may have witnessed the incident or saw Quandt driving to contact the non-emergency dispatch number at 509-628-0333.
