Fatal Kalamazoo shooting death of Marktavion Perry-Bennett – Obituary

On Thursday night, April 24, 2025, 21-year-old Marktavion Perry-Bennett tragically lost his life in a shooting on North Park Street and West Paterson Street in Kalamazoo.

Police discovered Perry-Bennett with a gunshot wound to the chest and transported him to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Witnesses helped identify 19-year-old Lamone Demetrius Hickman Jr. as the shooter, who was arrested in Muskegon after his cellphone records placed him near the scene of the crime.

The motive for the shooting has not been determined, but Perry-Bennett’s family described him as sweet, kind, and well-loved in his community.
