Nyla Simmons dies in fatal St. Louis car incident

Fatal St. Louis car accident death of Nyla Simmons – Obituary

An 18-year-old named Nyla Simmons lost her life late Saturday night in St. Louis after falling from the roof of an SUV and being fatally struck by a fire truck, according to authorities.

The accident took place around 11:20 p.m. when a Cadillac Escalade stopped at a red light. Simmons, who had reportedly been dancing atop the vehicle, fell off when it began moving again. Shortly after she hit the ground, a fire truck responding to an emergency with its lights and sirens activated hit her.

Her parents, Everett and Letrice Simmons, shared their heartbreak, remembering Nyla as an outgoing and joyful person who loved spending time with friends. They said she had just attended a prom send-off party with friends earlier that evening.

“This has changed us forever,” her father said. Her mother added, “It’s not just that she died, it’s how she died—that’s what makes it so painful.”

They emphasized that they do not blame Nyla’s friends, recognizing that teenagers sometimes make impulsive decisions. Both parents urged others to be cautious and learn from their daughter’s tragic mistake.

Nyla, the youngest of five siblings, had recently graduated from Parkway North High School and was scheduled to begin classes at Grabber School of Hair Design on Monday.

“I’m crushed not knowing what she could’ve become,” said her father.

Police confirmed that all involved parties remained at the scene and cooperated. The investigation is ongoing.
