Robert Spittler dies in fatal East Village DUI crash

Fatal East Village DUI crash claims the life of Robert Spittler – Obituary

On Saturday, April 26, 2025, Robert Spittler, 44, of Coronado, tragically died after his vehicle was struck by an eastbound car while he was driving south on 17th Street near San Diego City College.

The crash, which occurred shortly before 3:30 a.m., left Spittler unconscious, prompting firefighters to free him from his damaged car.

He was rushed to Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest but was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. The other driver, a 21-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of DUI. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
