Fatal Victorville hit-and-run death of Wilian Castro Vargas – Obituary

Wilian Castro Vargas, a 32-year-old man from Victorville, was tragically killed in a hit-and-run incident during the early morning hours of April 19, 2025, in Victorville, California. The collision occurred shortly before 1 a.m. at the intersection of Bear Valley Road and Mesa View Drive.

Deputies and emergency services arrived at the scene and discovered Vargas had died after being struck by a vehicle that fled immediately following the impact. Preliminary investigation revealed the driver was traveling westbound on Bear Valley Road when their vehicle hit Vargas, who was crossing the street.

Authorities later identified 59-year-old David Shynovick of Phelan as the suspect. Their investigation revealed that Shynovick was allegedly operating a 2013 Chevrolet Impala and had been driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

On April 22, law enforcement officers, including members of the Victorville Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team and the Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Division, executed a search warrant at Shynovick’s home. He was arrested and booked at the High Desert Detention Center, facing charges of murder under Penal Code 187(a) and felony hit-and-run under Vehicle Code 20001(a).
