Alejandro Calderon dies in fatal Long Beach shooting

Alejandro Calderon dies in fatal Long Beach shooting

Fatal Long Beach shooting death of Alejandro Calderon – Obituary

Alejandro Calderon, 52, of Hawthorne, was fatally shot in the early hours of March 17 in Long Beach, prompting a homicide investigation that has since led to an arrest.

Officers with the Long Beach Police Department responded to reports of an assault involving a deadly weapon around 3:49 a.m. in the 5400 block of Atlantic Avenue.

When authorities arrived, they found Calderon suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was rushed to a hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. The shooter had already fled the scene before police could apprehend anyone.

After weeks of investigation, detectives identified 24-year-old Malik Cooper of Compton as the suspect in the case. Cooper was taken into custody on April 28 during a traffic stop in Compton and booked for murder. He is currently being held on $2 million bail.

The nature of the relationship between Cooper and Calderon has not been determined, and the motive behind the shooting remains under investigation. Prosecutors with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office are reviewing the case for possible charges.

Authorities are encouraging anyone with relevant information to contact Long Beach Police Homicide Detectives Eric Thai or Chasen Contreras, or to submit anonymous tips through L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers.
