Fatal North Long Beach shooting death of Alejandro Calderon – Obituary

Alejandro Calderon, a 52-year-old resident of Hawthorne, was fatally shot in the early morning hours of March 17 in North Long Beach. Authorities say officers responded to a shooting report around 3:50 a.m. on the 5400 block of Atlantic Avenue, where they discovered Calderon suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body.

 

Calderon was transported to a nearby hospital, but despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

 

Following an investigation, detectives identified 24-year-old Malik Cooper of Compton as the primary suspect. Police say Cooper was taken into custody during a traffic stop in Compton after an arrest warrant was secured. He is currently being held on $2 million bail and faces murder charges.

 

The motive behind the shooting has not yet been determined, and investigators continue to seek answers about what led up to the fatal incident. Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to contact Detectives Eric Thai or Chasen Contreras at 562-570-7244.
