The Tavares Police Department is investigating a tragic single-vehicle crash that resulted in the death of 64-year-old Anthony Torres on Tuesday morning.

A passerby discovered Torres’ 2020 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck off the road near South Eichelberger Road, just before 6 a.m., and contacted local authorities.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers found Torres deceased, and it was noted that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

According to Detective Caitlin Diaz, authorities believe Torres was traveling southbound on State Road 19 when he lost control of the vehicle, veering off the road and colliding with a tree. The exact time of the crash remains unclear, as the witness who found the truck did not witness the incident.
