On Tuesday around 11:35 a.m., Armontye D. Alexander, 32, was fatally shot at a grocery store on the West Side of Chicago.

The incident occurred at Sanford Foods, located on North Laramie Avenue in the Austin neighborhood. According to the Chicago Police Department, the shooter entered the store, approached Alexander, and shot him in both the head and body before fleeing the scene.

Alexander, known affectionately as “Monti,” was rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The store owner revealed that the shooter entered the meat cooler and opened fire. Witnesses mentioned seeing a woman enter the store shortly before the shooting.

Family members of Alexander stated that he had only recently started working at the store and was dedicated to providing for his three children. His aunt, Marie Meeks, emphasized that Alexander had no known enemies and was not involved in any illegal activities.

While the store’s surveillance cameras were not recording at the time, nearby cameras may offer crucial footage.

Local authorities are still investigating the case, but no arrests have been made yet. Family and friends remember Alexander as a devoted family man who was preparing for baptism next week. The investigation remains ongoing as police search for answers.
