Fatal Pennsauken car submersion death of Bernadine Gunner – Obituary
Bernadine Gunner, who had been missing for nearly 15 years, was confirmed to be the individual whose remains were discovered inside a submerged car in the Cooper River in Pennsauken, New Jersey. The vehicle was recovered from the water in May 2024, and the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office officially identified the remains on Tuesday through forensic DNA analysis.
Gunner was 52 years old when she vanished on July 11, 2010. According to investigators, she was last seen driving her car after making threats to end her life. Her disappearance left her family in a prolonged state of uncertainty and heartbreak.
Prosecutor Grace MacAulay expressed sympathy in a public statement, acknowledging the emotional toll such unresolved cases take on loved ones. She said that while authorities had believed the remains belonged to Gunner, the DNA confirmation has at last brought clarity and closure to her family.
Law enforcement and forensic teams were involved in the recovery and identification process. The case, though tragic, now offers answers after years of unanswered questions.
