Bobby Dean Whitaker dies in fatal Brunswick County body dump case

Fatal Brunswick County body dump death of Bobby Dean Whitaker – Obituary

Authorities in Brunswick County, Virginia, have confirmed the identity of a man found dead along Route 1 as 52-year-old Bobby Dean Whitaker of Durham, North Carolina. His body was discovered early Tuesday morning just off the roadside near the Mecklenburg County line.

The discovery was made after a 911 call came in at around 6:48 a.m. The victim was found unclothed and lying only about two feet from the road with no effort made to hide the body. Investigators suspect he was transported to the site and left there deliberately or in a hurry.

Captain Joey Lopresti of the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office said the condition of the body raised immediate concerns. While there were no visible gunshot or stab wounds, the lack of clothing and presence of scratches led investigators to rule out natural causes early on.

“We believe whoever brought him here either wanted him found or was in a panic,” Lopresti stated.

Whitaker’s body was sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Richmond for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Authorities are still investigating why Whitaker, a North Carolina resident, was in Virginia.

The case remains open as officials work to piece together what led to Whitaker’s suspicious death.
