Fatal Glendale police shooting death of Dillon Siebeck – Obituary
Dillon Siebeck, a 46-year-old man from Tucson, was shot and killed by a Glendale police officer at Horizon Park on January 8. Authorities say no criminal charges will be filed against the officer involved.
According to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, after reviewing the incident, they determined there was not enough evidence to reasonably expect a conviction. As a result, they declined to pursue charges. The investigation itself was carried out by the Peoria Police Department to maintain impartiality, as is standard practice in officer-involved shootings.
Police initially responded to a domestic violence report near 47th Avenue and Glendale Avenue and mistakenly believed Siebeck matched the suspect’s description. Officers encountered him around 7 p.m. at the park, and one of them opened fire. Siebeck was unarmed and died at the scene. No weapons were found on him or in the surrounding area.
Footage from the incident, described as heavily edited, showed Siebeck communicating with an officer who did not appear to view him as a threat. A police practices expert noted that the shooter seemed to act contrary to typical safety procedures by stepping into an exposed position without cover.
Siebeck’s family, represented by the legal firms Romanucci & Blandin and Glen Lerner, expressed disappointment in the lack of criminal accountability. They emphasized that Dillon was innocent and posed no danger, insisting that civil action will be pursued to seek justice.
The Glendale officer remains on administrative assignment pending the outcome of an internal department review, which could lead to disciplinary action, including dismissal. The department emphasized its commitment to transparency and adherence to professional standards throughout the investigation.
