Fatal Port Arthur scaffold collapse deaths of Felix Jose Lopez, Felipe Mendez, and Reginald Magee – Obituary

Authorities have identified the three men who lost their lives in a scaffold collapse early Tuesday morning at the Port Arthur LNG site. The victims were Felix Jose Lopez, 42, of Pearland; Felipe Mendez, 25, of Houston; and Reginald Magee, 41, also of Houston.

The tragic event took place around 2:00 a.m. when five workers were on a scaffold that suddenly gave way, causing all of them to fall. Two of the workers died at the scene, while a third succumbed to injuries at the hospital. The remaining two were hospitalized but are expected to recover, as their injuries were reported to be non-life-threatening.

The incident occurred at the Bechtel Energy construction site on Gulfway Drive, just outside Port Arthur’s city limits. Bechtel is a major liquefied natural gas facility currently under construction, employing numerous workers from various trades.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, along with Captain Crystal Holmes, confirmed the sequence of events and noted that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the collapse.
