Fatal Nash County shooting death of Reina Magalybantes Castro – Obituary
The Nash County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that Reina Magalybantes Castro was the woman found fatally shot outside a residence on Lancaster Store Road. Deputies arrived at the scene around 1:50 p.m. Tuesday and found Castro unresponsive with gunshot wounds.
Another individual, Hector Aldana Moran, was also located at the scene with serious injuries from the same shooting. He was transported to WakeMed in Raleigh and remains in critical condition. Authorities have labeled Moran a person of interest in the case, though no charges have been filed as of yet pending further investigation.
During the emergency response, a deputy en route to the shooting was involved in a single-vehicle crash after swerving to avoid an Amazon delivery vehicle. The patrol car collided with a tree along North Carolina Highway 581 near Mills Circle. Witness Fred Prewer described the impact as sudden and violent. The injured deputy was also taken to WakeMed with non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover.
Aerial footage from Sky 5 showed a heavy police presence at the scene of the shooting, with at least a dozen law enforcement vehicles present. Authorities have yet to determine the exact nature of the relationship between Castro and Moran or clarify who fired the shots. The investigation remains ongoing.
