Fatal York County house fire death of Wesley Kunkle – Obituary

Wesley Kunkle, a 64-year-old man from Conewago Township, tragically perished in a house fire that occurred Tuesday night on Copenhaffer Road. The fire, which was caused by an electrical issue, rapidly engulfed the house, trapping Kunkle inside.

His 16-year-old grandson, who was also in the home, attempted to rescue him by breaking a window but was unsuccessful. The teenager was taken to UPMC Memorial for treatment of smoke inhalation and cuts. The house was destroyed and deemed uninhabitable, and two residents not present during the fire are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The cause and manner of Kunkle’s death are still under investigation, with a routine toxicology report pending.
