Fatal Bethesda, MD crash death of Diane Karras – Obituary

Diane Karras, 77, of Silver Spring, tragically passed away following a five-vehicle crash Wednesday morning on the outer loop of I-495. Maryland State Police reported that the incident occurred shortly before 11:30 a.m. near Maryland Route 187 (Old Georgetown Road), involving four vehicles and a tow truck.

Authorities revealed that the tow truck lost control, rear-ending Karras’ Honda Civic. The force of the collision caused the truck to swerve off the left shoulder and then back onto the highway, where it struck a Ford Ranger pickup truck.

This chain reaction led to the Ranger colliding with a Chevrolet Traverse, which in turn hit a Dodge Grand Caravan. Karras was transported to Suburban Hospital, where she was later declared dead. The driver of the Ford Ranger was also hospitalized.

State police are continuing to investigate the crash, and charges are pending after consulting with the Office of the State’s Attorney for Montgomery County.
