Fatal Newman Lake car crash death of Mark Maier – Obituary
Mark Maier, 70, lost his life following a deadly crash involving a 1955 Chevrolet near the Washington-Idaho border last Friday evening. Authorities say the incident happened around 5:15 p.m. along North Idaho Road, just south of East Trent Avenue, where Maier was thrown from his vehicle.
According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, bystanders pulled Maier away from the burning wreckage and began CPR before emergency responders arrived to take over lifesaving efforts. Despite their attempts, Maier was pronounced dead later at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center due to his injuries.
Witnesses reported that traffic had slowed for a left turn on Idaho Road when Maier attempted to pass the queue at high speed. During the maneuver, his car struck another vehicle turning left, veered off the road, hit an embankment and a tree, and overturned, igniting a fire.
No other individuals were injured in the crash.
