Fatal Minnesota drowning death of Michael Tjosaas – Obituary
Michael Tjosaas, a 59-year-old man from Carver County, Minnesota, tragically died after attempting to cross the border into Canada in late December. His body was discovered on April 16 in the Rainy River, located near the Ontario town of Emo.
Tjosaas was reported missing from his home in the Twin Cities area after his car was found in International Falls, a city near the U.S.-Canada border.
Authorities later determined he had purchased a kayak locally, although it was not found with his car. Law enforcement agencies, including the Ontario Provincial Police, Canadian authorities, and U.S. border officials, worked together to locate Tjosaas.
It is believed that Tjosaas tried to cross the river at a location not designated as an official border entry point. His cause of death was confirmed as drowning, with no signs of foul play.
