Fatal Aurora parking lot shooting death of Ra’jon Darquell Joseph – Obituary
Ra’jon Darquell Joseph, a 26-year-old man, was fatally shot early Sunday morning in a parking lot at East Mississippi Avenue and Chambers Road in Aurora, according to police.
Officers say Joseph was transported to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries. A second individual who was also struck by gunfire was hospitalized with non-life-threatening wounds.
Authorities have arrested 32-year-old Brandon Sutton of Aurora in connection with the incident. He was taken into custody later that same day and is facing charges including first-degree murder.
Investigators stated that Sutton knew both victims, and no additional suspects are being sought. The shooting took place outside a bar, where Joseph had gone with a friend and two women to return a set of keys to another man, according to an arrest affidavit.
When they arrived, a man inside a Honda opened fire. Joseph sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the chest, while the second man was shot in the leg.
Witness accounts, along with surveillance footage capturing the vehicle’s license plate—registered to Sutton—helped lead to the suspect’s arrest.
The investigation remains ongoing.
