Fatal Hardin County car crash death of Zachary Morris – Obituary

Zachary Morris, a 19-year-old from Warren, lost his life early Wednesday morning after his pickup truck veered off the road in Hardin County and struck a utility pole, according to authorities.

The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that Morris was traveling westbound on FM 1122 near FM 418 around 3:20 a.m. when he failed to navigate a curve. His vehicle left the roadway, entered a ditch, and collided head-on with both a utility pole and a large tree. The crash brought down the pole along with several transformers.

Captain Kevin Hussey of the DPS confirmed Morris was not wearing a seat belt at the time and was thrown from the truck. He died at the scene.

Silsbee Volunteer Fire Department Chief Robin Jones described the victim as a man in his early 20s. The crash caused the pickup truck to briefly catch fire, and approximately 1,000 Entergy customers lost electricity due to the damage.

The roadway was initially reopened but was later closed again to allow utility crews to restore power. By mid-afternoon, Entergy’s outage map showed power had been mostly restored, with only 14 customers still affected.

The Texas DPS continues to investigate the crash.
