Authorities in Chatham, Illinois, have released the names of four young individuals who tragically lost their lives when a vehicle crashed into a local after school program.
The Sangamon County Coroner identified the deceased as seven-year-olds Kathryn Corley and Alma Buhnerkempe, eight-year-old Ainsley Johnson, all from Chatham, and 18-year-old Rylee Britton from Springfield.
The Illinois State Police reported that the incident occurred when a vehicle, for reasons still under investigation, veered off the roadway, crossed a field, and slammed into the YNOT After School Camp building on Breckenridge Road. The car struck several people inside before exiting through the opposite side of the structure.
The driver, identified as Marianne Akers of Chatham, has not been arrested as authorities continue to investigate what led to the deadly crash.
