Dante Wingate, a 33-year-old resident of Hampton, lost his life after a shooting incident occurred late Sunday night near an apartment complex on Woodland Road, authorities said.
According to a statement from the Hampton Police Division, dispatchers received a call about gunfire at around 10:40 p.m. on April 27 in the 100 block of Woodland Road, located near The Woodlands at Phoebus, an apartment community at the corner of Woodland Road and E Mercury Boulevard.
Responding officers arrived to find Wingate lying outdoors with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
As of now, police have not disclosed any further details about the circumstances of the shooting or any potential suspects. The investigation is ongoing.
