Fatal Shreveport shooting death of Jarius D. Pennywell – Obituary

Jarius D. Pennywell, a 19-year-old resident, was killed Thursday night during a shooting in Shreveport’s Morningside neighborhood, the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed. The gunfire erupted around 9:30 p.m. in the 500 block of Fuller Street while a block party was taking place.

 

Authorities from the Shreveport Police Department stated that the violence may have broken out during a balloon release held in remembrance of another recent shooting victim. Pennywell was transported to Ochsner LSU Health for emergency care but did not survive his injuries.

 

This marks the eleventh homicide reported in Shreveport so far this year. The investigation is ongoing as detectives work to determine the circumstances that led to the deadly incident.
