Fatal Belmont, North Carolina crash death of Jorge Narino – Obituary

Jorge Narino, a 23-year-old man from Charlotte, tragically died in a wrong-way crash early Friday morning on Interstate 85 near Belmont. The collision occurred around 1:23 a.m. near mile marker 25, when Narino’s 2015 Hyundai Elantra was traveling in the wrong direction. Minutes earlier, Belmont Police had received reports of a car driving against traffic near Exit 27.

When officers arrived, they found Narino’s vehicle and a 2021 Mercedes Sprinter van damaged in the crash. Narino was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the Mercedes van, who sustained minor injuries, was taken to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center for treatment.

The northbound lanes of I-85 were closed for several hours as investigators from the Belmont Police Traffic and Crime Scene Units examined the area. Authorities continue their investigation and are asking anyone with information to contact Sergeant Kevin Wingate at 704-825-3792.
