Fatal Ingham County crash death of Tondi Tripp – Obituary
Authorities have confirmed that 62-year-old Tondi Tripp, a resident of Okemos, lost her life in a tragic accident involving a shuttle bus and a semi-truck on westbound I-96 near mile marker 112.
The incident occurred on Wednesday when emergency responders were dispatched to the scene of a collision that left both the rear of a trailer and the shuttle bus engulfed in flames, with heavy smoke across the highway. Upon arrival, it was determined that the shuttle bus had only the driver inside—Tondi Tripp—who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The semi-truck operator did not sustain any injuries. Law enforcement indicated that traffic on westbound I-96 had already been slowed due to a separate crash nearby. Witnesses, including a WLNS 6 News team, observed significant damage to both a CATA vehicle and the semi-truck’s trailer.
A representative for CATA confirmed that the involved bus was not part of its usual routes and had been subcontracted. They also identified Tripp as an employee of Transdev, a company contracted by CATA.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of a Transdev driver and offer our heartfelt condolences. We are fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation,” the CATA spokesperson stated.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash and urge anyone with relevant details to contact Sgt. Adam Jackson at 517-676-8211.
