Abdul Rahman Waziri dies in fatal Houston shooting

Fatal Houston shooting death of Abdul Rahman Waziri – Obituary

Abdul Rahman Waziri, a 31-year-old father of two, was shot and killed outside his Houston apartment complex on April 27 during a dispute over a parking space. The confrontation, which occurred around 9:15 p.m., ended with Waziri suffering multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he was later declared deceased, according to Houston Police.

Authorities said that a man approached officers at the scene and admitted to being the shooter, stating that the incident stemmed from a heated argument over parking. The firearm was recovered, and a statement was taken, but the man was not detained and was released shortly afterward. His identity has not been disclosed.

Witnesses shared with ABC 13 that the suspect had allegedly been damaging Waziri’s vehicle prior to the verbal exchange escalating. Omar Khawaja, the attorney for Waziri’s family, described the shooting as an execution, claiming the gunman retrieved his weapon and fired at Waziri after the argument had ended and Waziri was walking back to his car.

Waziri, who had previously worked with the U.S. Army in Afghanistan for seven years, had moved to the United States in pursuit of a safer future for his wife and children. His death has deeply shaken the local community, prompting demands for a full and impartial investigation.

Neighbors and relatives expressed their alarm that the suspected shooter remained in the apartment complex for days following the fatal incident, creating a climate of fear. “He came here seeking safety, but even here, it wasn’t safe,” said Waziri’s brother.

Attorney Khawaja further criticized the lack of thorough police investigation, emphasizing that self-defense claims require detailed scrutiny of who initiated the confrontation and what actually occurred.

The Houston Police Department has not yet issued additional comments regarding the ongoing investigation.
