Fatal Nashville car crash death of Chance Lee Kimbro – Obituary

A teenager from Nashville, identified as 17-year-old Chance Lee Kimbro, lost his life in a tragic crash involving three vehicles on Interstate 40 West near Spence Lane late Saturday night.

Police say Kimbro was driving a 2015 Ford Fusion that had been reported stolen just hours earlier from an apartment complex on Old Hickory Boulevard. Around 10:30 p.m., the car collided with the back of a semi-truck, causing it to spin out multiple times.

The violent motion of the crash ejected Kimbro from the vehicle, and he was then struck by another car traveling on the interstate. He died at the scene from his injuries.

A second person who had been in the Fusion reportedly ran from the scene before law enforcement arrived. Witnesses told authorities that the fleeing passenger attempted to hitch a ride with a passing driver who had stopped to help.

Metro police reported that Kimbro had been speeding and driving erratically through lanes in the moments before the collision. Investigators found no signs of drug or alcohol use at the crash site.

The case remains under investigation as authorities work to identify and locate the passenger who fled.
