Fatal Liberty County car crash death of Jimmy Altamirano – Obituary
A devastating crash on Leroy Coffer Highway in Liberty County claimed four lives, including that of 43-year-old Sgt. First Class Jimmy Altamirano of Long County. The incident occurred around 2 p.m. on January 11, 2020, when a 2018 Nissan Sentra crossed the median and collided head-on with an oncoming 2018 Audi, where Altamirano was a passenger.
According to Georgia State Patrol, the Sentra had been flagged as stolen in Savannah, prompting a Liberty County deputy to attempt a stop. The driver of the Sentra, Jonathan Kennedy, 19, of Savannah, fled and drove into oncoming traffic, striking the Audi. The impact killed Altamirano on the spot and sent the Audi’s driver, a 31-year-old Long County resident, to a Savannah hospital with injuries.
The Nissan flipped upon impact, hit a guardrail near Arcadia Drive, and killed all three of its occupants: Kennedy, Thomas Gordon Jr., 32, of Savannah, and Alie Dossey, 40, of Midway. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
