Maurice Whiters dies in fatal Milwaukee shooting

Fatal Milwaukee shooting death of Maurice Whiters – Obituary

Maurice Whiters, a 14-year-old student at Bay View High School, was fatally shot on the afternoon of May 2 near the intersection of Northridge Lakes Boulevard and 75th Street in Milwaukee. According to police, the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m., and both Whiters and a 16-year-old were found suffering from gunshot wounds.

Emergency responders rushed both teens to the hospital, where Whiters was pronounced dead. The 16-year-old remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Maurice’s family gathered the following day to honor his memory and share stories about the young teen who loved football and had dreams of making it to the NFL. His mother, Quintrell Smith, recalled how his older sister gave him a pair of clippers so he could start learning to cut hair, something he hoped to do after a future football career.

Relatives described Maurice as a bright and caring young man who cherished his family and took his role as the only boy in the household seriously. His younger sister, Ze’Anna Larry, expressed her sorrow, saying she looked forward to hugging him again in heaven.

The vigil held for Maurice was tragically disrupted by another burst of gunfire nearby, with TMJ4 reporters at the scene reporting approximately 20 shots fired. Thankfully, no injuries were reported from that separate incident.

Family members, including his stepfather James Larry, called for justice and a collective effort to end the ongoing violence in their community. Milwaukee police are continuing their investigation and are asking anyone with information to contact them or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers or the P3 Tips app.
