Fatal Washington County flood death of Steven Cloyd – Obituary
Steven Cloyd, who had been missing following severe flooding caused by Helene, has been confirmed deceased after his body was discovered along the Nolichucky River. The remains were found Thursday afternoon near the 2000 block of Highway 107 outside Jonesborough, according to Washington County Sheriff Keith Sexton.
Search crews clearing debris in the area uncovered Cloyd’s body, and officials later verified his identity with assistance from the medical examiner’s office. Cloyd was one of two people who had remained unaccounted for after the devastating flood event.
“This discovery, though tragic, may offer a measure of closure for the Cloyd family,” Sheriff Sexton said. “Our thoughts remain with them during this time.”
The search continues for Nancy Tucker, the only person still missing in connection with the flooding in Washington County.
