Fatal Del Valle shooting and vehicle collision death of Anthony Salas – Obituary

Anthony Salas, 20, tragically lost his life after he was shot and hit by a vehicle while attempting to recover his family’s stolen car in Del Valle on May 3, 2025.

The incident occurred around 3:21 a.m. when Travis County deputies were alerted to a stolen vehicle from the family’s driveway in the Sun Chase Neighborhood. At the same time, the Austin Police Department responded to a report of a person being struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Ross Road and Thome Valley Drive. Upon investigation, it was revealed that Salas had been shot and struck by a vehicle while trying to retrieve the stolen car.

Police are currently seeking several persons of interest, as surveillance footage suggests the suspects were involved in burglarizing other vehicles across south and east Austin around the same time. This case has become Austin’s 23rd homicide of the year.
