Fatal Memphis shooting death of Brandon Miller – Obituary
Brandon Miller was fatally shot late Saturday night during a violent encounter at an apartment complex located on Ridge Drive in southeast Memphis, near Riverdale and East Raines roads.
According to Memphis Police, 44-year-old Raffael Newman was taken into custody and faces a charge of second-degree murder. Newman reportedly turned himself in at the Shelby County jail just hours after the shooting and later surrendered the suspected murder weapon, which court records reveal had been reported stolen.
In his statement to investigators, Newman admitted he and Miller had been arguing before he pulled a gun and shot him. Though Newman claimed he only fired once, police at the scene recovered five spent shell casings. Newman also told authorities that he felt humiliated by Miller prior to opening fire.
He is currently being held on a $350,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
