Christopher Starks dies in fatal Savannah shooting

Fatal Savannah shooting death of Christopher Starks – Obituary

Christopher Starks, a 22-year-old junior at Savannah State University from the Atlanta area, was fatally shot during a confrontation at the student union on campus Thursday night. He was transported to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The incident led to a temporary lockdown of the university, which was lifted by midnight, according to university spokesperson Loretta Heyward. No arrests have been made in connection to the shooting, and authorities have not identified a suspect. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, alongside campus police, is leading the investigation.

Officials believe the shooting was an isolated event. In response, university leaders delayed classes until 10 a.m. Friday and made grief counseling services available to students.

A vigil organized by the student government was held Friday afternoon at the Felix-Alexis Circle Unity Plot to honor Starks’ memory. Founded in 1890, Savannah State University is recognized as Georgia’s oldest public historically black college.
