Fatal New Orleans police-involved death of Gregory Williams – Obituary
Gregory Williams, 42, has been identified by the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office as the man who died following a chaotic sequence of events that began in a Walmart parking lot in New Orleans.
On Friday, Officer Raychel Willey, working an off-duty assignment, responded to an overdose situation in the lot. She administered Narcan to Williams, who had reportedly overdosed. After regaining consciousness, Williams reportedly became agitated and drove off while Willey was partially inside his vehicle.
As Williams sped off, he hit a pedestrian who was later hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. He then sideswiped a gray pickup truck, during which Willey fell out and ended up pinned underneath the truck.
Williams continued driving and collided with two more vehicles at a nearby intersection. During the incident, Officer Willey discharged her weapon once, striking Williams in the chest.
Despite efforts by two other responding officers to administer aid, Williams was pronounced dead at the scene.
