Fatal Yuma County shooting deaths of Jose Martinez and Jose Guevara – Obituary

Authorities in Yuma County have identified the two men fatally shot over the weekend as 52-year-old Jose Martinez from Yuma and 48-year-old Jose Guevara from Somerton.

The deadly shooting occurred around 2:20 p.m. on Saturday in the vicinity of West Wall Lane and South Somerton Avenue, following a 911 call made with an open but silent line. Deputies from the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office responded and discovered the two victims with gunshot wounds; both were pronounced dead at the scene.

A third individual, also wounded in the shooting, managed to drive himself to Onvida Health. He remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Local resident Elisa Soto, who lives nearby, described the incident as frightening and said it reflects a lack of safety in the neighborhood.

Officials emphasized that even silent 911 calls trigger a dispatch to check on the situation. The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating and has not yet named a suspect.
