Fatal Nicholas County crash death of Ronald J. Carelli – Obituary

Ronald J. Carelli, 54, of Hixson, Tennessee, was killed in a tragic crash in Mount Nebo, West Virginia, on the morning of May 5, 2025.

The incident occurred at 9:22 a.m. at the intersection of US 19 South and Route 41, when the 2024 Subaru Outback driven by Carelli collided with a stopped asphalt truck from the West Virginia Division of Highways. The truck had been halted at a red light with clear visibility. Following the crash, the passenger car caught fire, trapping both Carelli and his passenger inside. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and rescued the victims, but Carelli was later pronounced dead at Summersville Regional Medical Center. His passenger, Misty D. Carelli, was airlifted with critical injuries to CAMC General Hospital in Charleston.

The truck driver was unharmed, though the force of the crash caused the truck to move a significant distance. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, with Nicholas County Sheriff’s Department leading the case. The weather at the time of the incident was overcast. The crash caused significant traffic delays in both the southbound and northbound lanes of US 19.
