Fatal Greeley, Kansas car crash death of Wayne Walls – Obituary
Wayne Walls, a former coach and educator at Carver Middle School in Tulsa, was one of four Tulsa-area victims who died in a tragic vehicle collision on Sunday, May 4, near Greeley, Kansas.
Walls had been returning from a youth basketball tournament with a group of students and staff members when the crash occurred on U.S. Highway 169 around 5:45 p.m. The two-vehicle accident claimed his life at the scene, along with those of Donald “DJ” Laster, a high school student; Ja’mon Gilstrap, a transportation department employee; and a ninth-grade student from Union Public Schools whose name has not been released.
Superintendent Dr. Ebony Johnson of Tulsa Public Schools described Walls as a beloved mentor and teacher who had made a lasting impact on students during his time at Carver Middle School. She noted the loss was being deeply felt across many parts of the school community.
Details of the crash remain under investigation by Kansas authorities, but it is believed that four others also died in the collision, with another person hospitalized.
The school district has activated its crisis response teams, and counseling services are being provided to students, staff, and families mourning the sudden loss of Walls and the others.
Wayne Walls is remembered as a dedicated educator and role model who shaped young lives through his work both in the classroom and on the court.
