Dr. Cameisha Clark dies in fatal Inglewood, California, school shooting
Fatal Inglewood shooting death of Dr. Cameisha Clark – Obituary.
Dr. Cameisha Clark, the 35-year-old dean of Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology, tragically died after being shot during an incident on May 2, 2025. Clark was working in her office at the college when a gunman opened fire, striking both her and her receptionist. Authorities later identified the gunman as Jesse Figueroa, a 40-year-old security guard employed at the college for only two months.
Clark, along with her receptionist, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries, while the receptionist remains in stable condition. The shooting occurred on the college campus, prompting a lockdown as authorities began their search for the suspect. Figueroa was apprehended shortly after the shooting when police spotted his vehicle and arrested him in the Pico-Union neighborhood.
Figueroa has been charged with multiple offenses, including one count of murder, attempted murder, and possession of a firearm by a felon. The motive behind the attack remains unclear.
Dr. Clark’s family has described her as a compassionate and dedicated individual who was deeply committed to her students. They expressed devastation over her senseless death and vowed to seek justice for her. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Clark earned her degrees from Clark Atlanta University, where she pursued her passion for education.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman condemned the act, emphasizing that every member of the community should feel safe at their place of work or study. Figueroa, a convicted felon, was not legally allowed to possess a firearm. If convicted, he faces life imprisonment, and his arraignment is scheduled for May 29, 2025.
