Fatal Orangeburg County car crash death of Kyle and Sara Greene – Obituary

Kyle Greene, 32, and his wife Sara E. Greene, 33, both from Fuquay Varina, North Carolina, tragically lost their lives early Tuesday morning in a collision on Interstate 95 in Orangeburg County, South Carolina. Their young child survived the wreck and was taken to a Columbia hospital for treatment, officials said.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 12:45 a.m. near mile marker 87, close to the interchange with Interstate 26. The couple was traveling northbound in a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox when their SUV struck the back of a 1987 dump truck, also headed north.

Authorities reported that both front-seat occupants of the SUV died at the scene from multiple blunt force injuries. It is still unclear which of the two was behind the wheel at the time of the accident. Their child, who was riding in the back seat, was injured and transported to Prisma Health Richland hospital. No updates on the child’s condition were immediately available.

Orangeburg County Coroner Sean Fogle confirmed the identities and causes of death, expressing deep condolences to the surviving child and urging the public to keep the family in their thoughts.

The dump truck driver, the only person in that vehicle, was not injured. Troopers did not say whether anyone involved had been wearing a seat belt.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into what led to the crash.

So far this year, 270 people have died in traffic-related incidents across South Carolina. In 2024, the state recorded at least 948 road fatalities. Orangeburg County alone has seen at least seven traffic deaths in 2025, compared to 46 the previous year.
