Fatal Oro Valley shooting death of Alfred Lopez-Minor – Obituary

Authorities have confirmed that 31-year-old Alfred Lopez-Minor was killed during a police-involved shooting at Tohono Chul Park in Oro Valley, Arizona, on April 28, 2025. Officers from the Oro Valley Police Department responded to reports of gunfire around 7 p.m. that evening.

Upon arrival, officers found the park’s front gate shut and entered the grounds on foot. They soon located a pickup truck with broken windows near the Garden Bistro. As one officer approached the scene, he was met with gunfire. Additional police units arrived and secured the area, where they encountered Lopez-Minor armed with a handgun.

Authorities say Lopez-Minor refused to comply with repeated commands to drop his weapon. Due to the imminent threat he posed, officers opened fire, striking him multiple times. Despite emergency medical efforts, Lopez-Minor was declared dead at the scene. A semi-automatic handgun was recovered nearby.

Investigators later learned that Lopez-Minor had previously worked at the Garden Bistro, located within the park, though his employment had ended in December 2024. Officers also found property within the park that had been damaged by him prior to the shooting.

The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team (PRCIT) was activated to conduct the investigation, with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department taking the lead. A parallel administrative review is being carried out by the Oro Valley Police Department. The findings will be submitted to the Pima County Attorney’s Office once the investigation is complete.
