Fatal Thompson car crash death of Judy Rusten – Obituary

Judy Rusten, 83, of Aneta, lost her life in a head-on collision on Interstate 29 just north of Thompson, North Dakota, on Monday, May 5. Authorities confirmed she was driving in the wrong direction at the time of the incident.

The crash occurred shortly after 1 p.m. when Rusten, operating a Chevrolet Traverse, drove southbound in the northbound lanes and collided with a GMC Sierra driven by 42-year-old Joshua Bedard. Bedard sustained serious injuries and was transported to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.

The collision prompted the closure of the interstate for approximately two hours as investigators processed the scene. Reports indicated clear weather conditions at the time of the crash. Bedard was wearing a seat belt and his airbags deployed, while Rusten was not wearing a seat belt.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
