Des Moines authorities have confirmed that Jerome Cook, a 60-year-old resident of the city, died after his vehicle veered off the road and collided with a utility pole on the south side.
According to Sgt. Paul Parizek, police responded to the crash at approximately 2:30 p.m. on May 8 in the 6500 block of Bloomfield Road. Investigators determined that Cook had been driving a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix northbound at a high speed when the car left the roadway and struck the pole.
Cook was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was declared dead at the scene. No other individuals were involved or injured in the incident.
The Des Moines Police Department’s Traffic Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
