Menashe Hidra dies in fatal Valley Village shooting

Fatal Valley Village shooting death of Menashe Hidra – Obituary

Authorities have identified 53-year-old Menashe Hidra, also known as Manny, as the victim of a deadly attack in his Valley Village apartment. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. on April 23, but his body was not discovered until the afternoon of April 26, following a welfare check at his residence on Riverside Drive.

Investigators say Erick Escamilla, 27, broke into the apartment by accessing the rooftop of the building and descending through a skylight in a neighboring vacant unit. From there, he allegedly moved across a balcony into Hidra’s unit, where a violent struggle occurred, resulting in Hidra’s death. Authorities report that Escamilla used a screwdriver during the attack.

At the time of his arrest, Escamilla was receiving medical care at a local hospital for an undisclosed condition. Police plan to formally book him once doctors determine he is ready for discharge. Escamilla faces charges of murder and residential burglary, with a special circumstance for committing murder during a burglary, as well as enhancements for weapon use and a prior burglary conviction.

The Los Angeles Police Department has acknowledged concerns regarding their initial response. Officers had been called to the scene on April 23 for a reported disturbance but left without entering the apartment when there was no answer at the door. An internal review has been launched to examine their handling of the call.

Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to contact Valley Bureau homicide detectives or leave an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
